So what’s the best time of the year to visit Morocco, you’ll ask – Well, Morocco is at its most beautiful in spring (mid-March to May) but has exotic holiday destinations for every season!
Desert region

Yes, summer can get hot in Morocco in the desert. The temperatures in the summer months can easily rise to 53 degrees Celsius (127.4 degrees Fahrenheit). But that doesn’t stop anyone! Cities like Marrakesh and Fez come alive after sundown – Enjoy the lively night scene at Djemaa El Fnaa in Marrakesh with its carnival atmosphere. You’ll find snake charmers, exotic food stalls, lively musicians to keep you company!
Summer is the peak season for domestic tourism and is the best time to visit if you want to see the real Morocco. It’s raining discounts during the summer months, especially for accommodation options, and the cities come alive with local music festivals.
During winters, the desert can be treacherously cold at night, the temperature can drop to 10 degrees Celsius (50 degrees Fahrenheit). In cities like Marrakesh, you may find yourself sitting around the fireplace at times (with temperatures dropping to 12 – 15 degrees Celsius i.e. 53.6 – 59 degrees Fahrenheit). Cloudless sunny blue skies make Marrakesh a magical winter holiday destination.
Atlas Mountains

Large parts of Morocco are covered by mountains: the High Atlas, the Middle Atlas, the Rif mountains, and the Anti-Atlas (‘anti’ as in ‘against’: this mountain range lies against the other Atlases). And in those mountains, it can be very pleasant in summer. Around 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit): a lot more moderate than the heat in the desert and the city.
The summers here are mild and pleasantly sunny. So if mountain hikes are your thing or if you want to try and summit the adventurous Toubkal, the Atlas mountains are your destination in summer!
In winter, the temperature in the mountains easily drops below 0 degrees Celsius. Snow-sport lovers can head to Oukaimeden ski resort with its 6 ski-lifts offering skiing and other winter sports while Ifrane (in the Middle Atlas) is fondly called “Little Switzerland” by many.
The Atlantic Coast
Morocco has about 2900 km (1801 miles) of beautiful coastline. Here the weather is warm in summer interspersed with cool sea breezes which make for perfect beach weather. Cities like Essaouira, Rabat, and Casablanca are quite cool. If you are looking to lounge in the sun or enjoy a dip in the welcoming azure seas, Morocco offers exotic beaches you wouldn’t want to miss.
Winters here are pleasant but the breeze from the sea can get a tad chilly. The beaches may be too cold to sunbathe or swim in but the weather is friendly enough for windsurfing and surfing. Southern cities like Dakhla are a popular choice from November to March.
When planning a vacation to Morocco, you need to take into account the weather. Spring and autumn are the most popular seasons to travel through Morocco, so that is the peak season. For example, if you want to make a trek through the mountains it is advisable to do this in the summer, while the coast is a great place in winter.
So, if you ask me – is it hot or cold in Morocco? I’ll just say – Morocco is one of the few places where you can go for a camel ride in the hot desert one day and is skiing on snow-clad mountain slopes the next!
